Every year, the French Neutron Society organises a Thematic School on a specific aspect of neutron scattering.
On the occasion of the International Year for Crystallography, the topics enlightened in 2014 will be the assets of neutron scattering fot the study of cristalline materials.

Scientific aims :
This school aims at presenting various techniques of neutron scattering (diffraction, inelastic scattering, reflectometry) that can be used for unravelling the structure and the dynamics of cristalline solids interesting Physics, Chemistry or Material Sciences.

Public concerned
This school is dedicated to any researcher wanting to discover the neutron scattering techniques or seeking to know their applicability in the context of their own research.

The training will focus on three themes:
- A first general introduction to crystallography (symmetry and invariants, scalar or polar scatterers) and the scattering of X-rays or neutron,
- A second part will be devoted to methods of analyzing crystal systems (diffraction, inelastic spectroscopy, diffuse scattering and reflectometry) with neutrons, and their contribution compared to more conventional methods,
- A third part is devoted to instrumentation and neutron diffraction instruments available at French Neutron sources.
