Objet: [Neutron] ORNL: Postdoctoral Research Associate - Radio Frequency Neutron Spin Larmor Labeling Technique / NB50648172 Pièces jointes: ATT00001.txt ORNL Publications External Publication Job Posting Title Postdoctoral Research Associate - Radio Frequency Neutron Spin Larmor Labeling Technique / NB50648172 Posted Date 12/13/2017 End Posting Date 01/21/2018 Purpose Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. ORNL’s diverse capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines. ORNL’s world class synthesis, characterization and computing facilities enable the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace. For more about ORNL see: https://www.youtube.com/user/OakRidgeNationalLab. The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States’ highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world’s most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 30 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron irradiation. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to http://neutrons.ornl.gov. The Instrument Methods, Projects, and Technologies Group in the Neutron Technologies Division has an immediate opening for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on the development of novel neutron spin Larmor labeling techniques. In this role, you will be expected to carry out research and development of Superconducting Radio Frequency Neutron Spin Manipulation devices and their implementation for material research at the HFIR and SNS. You will use the devices to explore the dynamics of ionic liquids and skyrmions. Major Duties/Responsibilities You will join a research team of scientists, engineers and programmers to develop and implement the neutron spin Larmor labeling techniques which involves significant instrumentation development. You will also have the opportunity to work with the Instrument Methods, Projects and Technologies Group, colleagues from other ORNL divisions, and university partners to: * Simulate and optimize the radio frequency magnetic device using a finite element magnetic field modeling package. * Fabricate and test devices, comparing measured performance with simulation expectations. * Deploy the devices on neutron scattering beam lines to investigate dynamics in materials, such as ionic liquids and skyrmions. * Develop software required for operation of the device and data analysis. * Support the development of other neutron spin Larmor labeling techniques at ORNL. * Publish papers in peer-reviewed journals. * Present results at appropriate national and international conferences. * Ensures compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements * You will be expected to commit to ORNL's Research Code of Conduct by holding yourself and others to the highest scientific, professional, and ethical standards in a manner that fosters mutual respect and enhances the reputation of the individual researcher, his/her colleagues, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in its mission to address the Department of Energy's and the nation's scientific and technical challenges. Requirements for this job include the use of hand and eye protection gear, kneeling, sitting for extended periods of time, extensive work at chemical laboratories, and possible exposure to ionizing radiation normally associated with operation of neutron scattering instruments for scientific research. Qualifications Required Basic Qualifications: - A PhD in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other related science fields. - Willingness to work in a team environment on technically and scientifically challenging topics. Note: Applicants must have received their PhD within five years of the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in neutron scattering techniques and instrument development. - Experience in the design of magnetic and radio frequency devices - Demonstrated proficiency in computer programming and data acquisition - Good interpersonal and communication skills - Good presentation skills This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days after which it will close when a qualified candidate is identified and/or hired. We accept Word(.doc, .docx), Excel(.xls, .xlsx), PowerPoint(.ppt, .pptx), Adobe(.pdf), Rich Text Format(.rtf), HTML(.htm, .hmtl) and text files(.txt) up to 2MB in size. Resumes from third party vendors will not be accepted; these resumes will be deleted and the candidates submitted will not be considered for employment. If you have trouble applying for a position, please email ORNLRecruiting@ornl.gov.
