Description of directorate/division The Detector group is part of the Neutron Technology Division under the Science Directorate. The Neutron Technology Division provides the technological tools required for the design, construction and operation of the neutron instruments at the ESS. The Detector group is currently focused on performing the necessary research and development for alternatives to He-3 detectors for neutron detection. Description of main responsibilities The successful candidate will be a technician in one of the detector groups new state-of-the- art workshop spaces in Lund. This is either the fine mechanical workshop, or electronics workshop. The technician will be responsible for helping build-up the workshop, take part in the first items produced there, setting up procedures, and day-to-day running of the workshop, and production for both prototyping and construction within that workshop. Significant technical expertise will be vital to be able to provide detectors for ESS. Qualifications We are looking for a self motivated, creative person who enjoy develop novel solutions. To be successful in this position you must have general high standard of technical skills and excellent mechanical dexterity. Furthermore, you are a technically-minded person who looking to gain specialist experience in a highly technical hands-on career path. We believe that you have a few years work experience as a precision engineer, either fine mechanical and machining- or/and electronics technical skills. If you have work experience in a precision engineering activity or a "high tech" activity it would be an advantage. You have a degree in engineering, electronics or similar technical field or an apprenticeship/Ausbildung/HND level in engineering, electronics or similar. You are willing to travel and work overseas for short periods of time. You are fluent in English and have a basic knowledge of Swedish or Danish. The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
