De: Neutron de la part de Guang Wang Envoyé: mardi 2 mai 2023 09:38 À: neutron@neutronsources.org Objet: [Neutron] Post-doctoral/Research fellow positions in neutron surface scattering at the China Spallation Neutron Source Pièces jointes: ATT00001.txt Post-doctoral/Research fellow positions in neutron surface scattering at the China Spallation Neutron Source The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) is one of the four large-scale spallation neutron sources in the world, located in Dongguan City of the Greater Bay Area among Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macau, about 100 kilometers away from Hong Kong. Three neutron instruments, including a powder diffractometer, a SANS instrument and a polarized neutron reflectometer, have been commissioning since late 2017 at CSNS. Another 8 instruments funded by various scientific research institutions in China are planned to be commissioned early next year. The remaining 9 neutron instruments were approved early this year by National Development and Reform Commission in China and among which, a dedicated neutron reflectometer with a horizontal sample geometry was proposed to specifically focus on the study of structure and formation of thin films (layers) as well as their response to environmental changes. The instrument will be particularly optimized for the areas of soft condensed matter, life science and advanced materials with free liquid surfaces, liquid-liquid, solid-liquid and solid-air interfaces. Several post-doctoral/research fellow positions are opened for application. The CSNS welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences for the positions. About the roles: The main role involved in the research fellow position is to defining the key parameters of the instrument, such as the neutron delivery system, sample stage system and detector system as well as the modes of operation, which will be done together with technicians and engineers from various groups. The preliminary design concept will be refined and simulated using the Monte- Carlo simulation package McStas, and then benchmarked against existing instrumentations. Particular emphasis will be on engaging the potential domestic and international user community to build, operate and use instrumentation in the future. The postdoctoral fellow will focus on instrument design as well by collaborating with the research fellow with particular emphasis on technology development, which is considered as a key for the success of the instrument proposal. This includes again either the neutron delivery system, sample stage system or sample environment devices. We offer very competitive pre-tax salary for post-doctoral fellows, about ¥ 450k CNY (~ $ 65k USD) with additional housing provident fund each year for total 2 years. Outstanding candidates will be considered for the tenure-track position or long-term support. A subsidized apartment might be possible if required, but first come first serve. The salary for research fellows, on the other side, could be different, we will however offer additional subsidization and allowance. Onsite gym and sports facilities are fully equipped. Basic Qualifications: • Ph.D. in physics, materials science, or closely related field for the postdoctoral positions. At least two years’ postdoctoral research experience is required for the research fellow position; • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research; • Experience with neutron and/or synchrotron based X-ray instruments; • Very good oral and written proficiency in English; • Good communication skills and networking abilities Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with neutron or synchrotron based X-ray instrument design and operation; • Experience with neutron reflectometry and GISANS measurements; • Skills in computer modelling and programming e.g. with McStas and with Python or other high level languages, especially for those interested in the research fellow position. How to Apply Applications shall be written in either English or Chinese into a single PDF file which includes: • 1. A resume with education backgrounds and full list of publications; • 2. A general description of previous research periods and the interested research area, which is particularly important for those interested in the research fellow position; • 3. At least two references and their contact information.
