Postdoctoral Fellowship
Structure/dynamics-function relationship in new energy-related materials
2 year term with the possibility of 1 year extension
Salary range $72K (plus 15.4% superannuation)

ANSTO is one of Australia’s foremost scientific research and development organisations, focused on delivering the benefits of nuclear science to the Australian community.

We are looking for a recent PhD graduate to work on a research project involving new materials for sustainable-energy applications. We seek a candidate with a strong innovation focus, good communication skills and a proven publication record, as well as experience and skills specific to the proposed research project.  PhDs must have been awarded within the last three years or be under examination.

The fellow will study alternative energy-system materials by bringing together various neutron scattering methods with analysis using DFT calculations. Our key goal is understanding structure and dynamics of these materials at an atomistic level so that their function can be improved. The materials-function includes separation, storage, and use of hydrogen in fuel-cells and storage of energy in battery materials.

Applicants must have a background in physical-chemistry or materials science and experience in modern quantum-chemistry calculations. Knowledge of neutron scattering techniques would be advantageous. This is a competitive and rapidly advancing field that offers the potential to contribute to both scientific and environmental developments.

For further technical information relating to this position please contact Vanessa Peterson on +61 (02) 9717 9401 or Don Kearley on +61 (02) 9717 7274.

For further information on how to apply and to view the selection criteria please consult the application information package or contact Megan Lusty on +61 (02) 9717 3094. Applications should be submitted online and must address the selection criteria.
