Objet: [Neutron] ORNL: Laboratory Research Support Technical Professional Pièces jointes: ATT00001.txt Job Posting Title Laboratory Research Support Technical Professional-NB50414318 Posted Date 02/24/2014 End Posting Date 04/26/2014 Purpose The Center for Structural Molecular Biology in the Biology and Soft Matter Division and the Instrument and Source Division invite applications for a technician position to support the Spallation Neutron Source/High Flux Isotope Reactor user program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), the United States' highest flux reactor based neutron source, and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), the world's most intense pulsed accelerator based neutron source. Together these facilities operate 24 instruments for neutron scattering research, each year carrying out in excess of 1,000 experiments in the physical, chemical, materials, biological and medical sciences for more than 3,000 visiting scientists. HFIR also provides unique facilities for isotope production and neutron irradiation. To learn more about Neutron Sciences at ORNL go to: http://neutrons.ornl.gov. Purpose: The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of research and technical staff at ORNL to manage laboratories at the HFIR and provide research support in the SNS Biology Laboratory. The candidate will be expected to serve as a technical specialist responsible for managing the HFIR laboratories and to train staff and visiting scientists to ensure that they meet all ES&H requirements for working in laboratories at ORNL neutron facilities. Major Duties/Responsibilities Laboratory Technician duties include serving as the Laboratory Space Manager for lab spaces, operation point of contact for lab maintenance and upgrades, and coordinator of user experiments in the lab. This position will develop and maintain laboratory documentation (such as quick start guides, hazard analysis and chemical worksheet forms and waste documentation), assist user with laboratory experiment check-in, provide and record user training for the lab spaces and provide sample handling support. The position will maintain inventories of lab equipment, consumables and chemicals while maintaining the lab spaces. As more neutron scattering instruments become available at HFIR and the SNS, there is a growing need to expand the Biology Laboratory to support the broader user program of the BSMD. The successful applicant will also play a lead role in developing approaches for over- expression and purification of labeled biomacromolecules for neutron scattering studies. Qualifications Required A BS degree with 2 or more years of relevant experience in the biological sciences (biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology) and laboratory management is required. A proven track record in molecular biology, heterologous protein expression, and protein purification techniques is required. * The duties of this position require certain health standards be met. Therefore, employment in this capacity is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment physical exam and drug screen which must be administered and cleared before employment can begin. QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED: A MS degree with 4 or more years of relevant experience in the biological sciences (biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology) and laboratory management is desired. Candidate should be self- motivated, have good interpersonal, communication and presentational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff at all levels within a multi-disciplinary team. Previous experience in isotopic labeling, and fed-batch fermentation would be a distinct advantage. Previous experience in DOE user lab or science facilities is desired. Measures of Effectiveness - Competent with all relevant equipment, systems, software programs, established policies, procedures and work methods - Responsible for independently solving a variety of complex technical problems for technical projects - Supports senior technical staff on projects providing a full range of technical services - Provides solutions to technical problems associated with specific projects or functions Employment Status Full-Time This position will remain open for a minimum of 5 days after which it will close when a qualified candidate is identified and/or hired.
