This LANSCE Professorship will be a joint appointment with the Los Alamos Neutron Scattering Center (LANSCE) for the initial six years (or until tenure). The incoming LANSCE Professor will split his or her time equally between the Los Alamos Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center and NMSU’s Department of Physics. The Manuel Lujan Neutron Scattering Center is one of the nation’s prime neutron user facilities, and it is located at Los Alamos in northern New Mexico. New Mexico State University is located at Las Cruces in southern New Mexico. Support for travel between the two institutions will be part of the start-up package. At LANSCE, the successful candidate is expected to support research and/or user projects in the general area of materials science (see www.lansce.lanl.gov). Current research emphasis areas include but are not limited to: soft condensed matter, nanoscale materials, magnetic materials, materials for energy & environmental applications, geomaterials, structural materials. At NMSU, the LANSCE Professor is expected to establish an externally funded and sustainable research program, to work with students on his/her research projects, and to fulfill half of the teaching commitments at undergraduate and graduate levels. After completion of the LANSCE Professorship, the candidate will become a full-time faculty member in the Department of Physics, if tenure is granted. Candidates should have a strong background in neutron scattering or similar techniques, and a PhD in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field is required. Some postdoctoral experience is highly desired. Applicants should send a resume, a statement of research interests, a short description of the candidate’s teaching philosophy and the names and addresses of at least three references in a single PDF file to: Dr. Heinz Nakotte, Chair, Faculty Search – Neutron Scattering, Physics Department MSC, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM 88003. Email: nmsulansce@nmsu.edu. Screening of the applicants will begin on 15 November 2012, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. New Mexico State University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.
