Description of division ESS is now looking for a control system engineer for the hardware and integration group organised within the technical directorate. The Hardware and Integration group is responsible for the integration of all hardware in the ESS facility into the integrated control system. This includes a diverse flora of different systems ranging from PLC systems for water flow control to fast FPGA-based data acquisition systems. All integrated towards the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System software framework. Description of main responsibilities The main responsibilities associated with this position are: * Interacting with Integrated Control System (ICS) stakeholders to define requirements, design and develop control systems o Document and analyse stakeholder and internal requirements o Participate in creating test and validation plans according to requirements o Design control system solutions and prepare for technical reviews o Implement and realize the designed solution o Troubleshoot and optimize performance of existing solutions o Drive test, validation procedures for the designed solution, maintain and support the delivered systems * Interacting with ICS’s partners o Formulate and document requirements for partner contributions o Participate in follow-up on partner development activities o Review and assess designs and documents from partner contributors o Ensure a high quality level of delivered contributions o Maintain and support systems delivered by partners o Participate in planning and reporting * Reporting weekly progress/issues/next steps to work package managers o Support work package and project managers with technical competence o Assist work package activities and work package managers with Earned Value o Management project reporting * Ensure that all work is executed in accordance with ESS quality assurance and safety procedures * Actively participate in work with deliverable and process quality Qualifications MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS The following qualifications are mandatory for this position: * Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology or science * 2 years or longer of experience from work with control system development * 2 years or longer experience in industrial automation using Siemens and/or Beckhoff equipment * Excellent communication and collaboration skills * Excellent oral and written English skills, including developing technical control system documentation in English MERITING QUALIFICATIONS The following qualifications are meriting for this position: * Higher academic degree in related topic * 5+ years of relevant professional control system development experience * 2+ years of experience from EPICS integration and development * Experience with high speed data acquisition systems * Experience in motion control applications * Experience in experimental controls applications * Experience in software development languages such as C/C++ * Experience from “big science” projects * Experience and knowledge about quality assurance and verification of control systems, preferably using automated test tools * Experience in system engineering and total lifecycle management of control systems * Experience from complex, international technical/scientific projects Our work environment is characterised by fast growth, fast pace of work, and an international atmosphere with highly skilled personnel.
