Marginal stability of unconventional superconductors and P and T violation


We argue that superconductor with gap nodes can generate secondary component
of the gap so that the quasiparticle spectrum become fully gapped, thus
gaining condensate energy. Typically this phenomenon occurs with the
secondary component of the gap having complex phase so that the total order
parameter violates time reversal and possibly parity in new phase.
The appearance of the secondary component can occur via second transition,
as in case of magnetic impurities in d-wave  superconductor, or it can occur
simultaneously upon entering superconducting state, as might be the case
for d-wave superconductor in the external magnetic field. The experimental
implications for either case will be discussed.
