Oak Ridge National Laboratory is
pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for experiments at both the High Flux
Isotope Reactor (HFIR) and the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). This call
includes the following nine instruments:
HFIR instruments
·
·
Triple-Axis Spectrometer (HB-1)
·
Residual Stress (HB-2B)
·
Triple-Axis Spectrometer (HB-3)
·
SANS (CG-2)
·
Bio-SANS (CG-3)
SNS instruments
·
Backscattering Spectrometer (BL-2)
·
Magnetism Reflectometer (BL-4A)
·
Liquids Reflectometer (BL-4B)
The electronic proposal submission
system is being enhanced per user requests and is accepting submissions
starting January 7, 2008. We will continue to incorporate user comments as we
improve our systems. We apologize for any inconveniences users may have
experienced as we bring our system on line.
This call will cover the
experimental period at HFIR and SNS beginning March 2008 through August 2008; it
will be open until 11:59 p.m. ET, Monday, January 28, 2008. All
previously submitted proposals will expire and will not be considered for this
experimental period. This is a necessary step as we progress toward
routine operations.
For details concerning proposal
submission and instrument capabilities, please visit our website at http://neutrons.ornl.gov.
This website has specific information (along with names of scientific contacts)
about each of the above-mentioned instruments. For your convenience, one
of your previously submitted proposals can be copied and serve as a basis for
modification into a new proposal; please see the website for more
details.
All proposals will be reviewed for feasibility, safety, and
the potential for high impact science. Users of approved experiments must
complete access and training requirements prior to beginning their
experiments. Please contact neutronusers@ornl.gov or
call Judy Trimble, Neutron Scattering Science User Office, at 865-241-3675 if
you have any questions. Both HFIR and SNS are user facilities funded by
the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science.
